No headline. Just determination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are India\u2019s <strong>63 million+ MSMEs<\/strong>\u2014the businesses that run our markets, power our exports, and keep millions employed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But today, on <strong>MSME Day 2025<\/strong>, we\u2019re not here to romanticize them.<br>We\u2019re here to talk about <strong>what they go through<\/strong>, and why they still show up\u2014even when the odds aren\u2019t fair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><i class=\"fas fa-arrow-right\"><\/i><\/span><strong>The Real Challenges MSMEs Face (But Rarely Talk About)<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>MSMEs contribute 30% to India\u2019s GDP and over 45% to exports.<br>But the system doesn\u2019t always return the favour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><i class=\"fas fa-arrow-right\"><\/i><\/span><strong>1. Payments Come Late. Really Late.<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to government data, over <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/business\/sme-delayed-payments-unpaid-msme-dues-near-rs-50000-crore-3708110\/\">\u20b948,000+ crore in payments<\/a><\/strong> to MSMEs are still pending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though the law says payments should be made within <strong>45 days<\/strong>, small businesses often wait months\u2014with no interest, no explanation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagine running your shop or factory and not knowing when you&#8217;ll get paid for work you\u2019ve already done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><i class=\"fas fa-arrow-right\"><\/i><\/span><strong>2. Credit Is Still Hard to Get<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Only <strong>16% of MSMEs<\/strong> get formal loans from banks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rest depend on NBFCs, local moneylenders, or friends and family\u2014often paying high interest, or not getting what they need at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite new lending platforms and schemes, credit access is still full of paperwork, waiting, and confusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><i class=\"fas fa-arrow-right\"><\/i><\/span><strong>3. They\u2019re Still Not Fully Digital<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, UPI is everywhere. But when it comes to real digital transformation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Only <strong>18% of MSMEs sell online<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Very few use <strong>e-invoicing or digital bookkeeping<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many still don\u2019t know about tools like <strong>TReDS<\/strong> or <strong>OCEN<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This digital gap limits their visibility, slows down payments, and makes it harder to get credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><i class=\"fas fa-arrow-right\"><\/i><\/span><strong>And Yet\u2026 They Still Show Up<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite all this, MSMEs are still building, hiring, and growing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They generate <strong>110 million+ jobs<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They\u2019ve powered <strong>\u20b915.6 lakh crore+ in loans<\/strong> through Udyam-linked systems<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From handicrafts in Bhuj to drone tech in Chennai\u2014they\u2019re not just working, they\u2019re innovating<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Their strength lies in their <strong>consistency<\/strong>, even when the system is inconsistent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><i class=\"fas fa-arrow-right\"><\/i><\/span><strong>What Needs to Change in 2025?<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If we want MSMEs to grow, we need fewer slogans and more support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what can actually help:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>What You Can Do<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Why It Matters<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Pay within 45 days<\/td><td>Keeps MSMEs alive and running<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Introduce them to TReDS<\/td><td>Helps them turn invoices into cash quickly<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Encourage digital invoicing<\/td><td>Builds credit history and improves loan chances<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Support Udyam registration<\/td><td>Opens doors to formal finance<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Buy from local MSMEs<\/td><td>Every purchase supports jobs and growth<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re a <strong>lender, buyer, policymaker, or fintech<\/strong>\u2014make \u201cMSME-friendly\u201d more than just a nice word. Make it your actual target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><i class=\"fas fa-arrow-right\"><\/i><\/span><strong>MSMEs Are Not Just Small. They\u2019re Ready to Scale.<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Only <strong>0.3% of MSMEs<\/strong> are officially \u201cmedium\u201d in size. But they contribute <strong>40% of MSME exports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That shows the truth:<br>&#8211; When MSMEs get the right support, they grow fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They don\u2019t need handouts.
